A tranquil escape that whispers the gentle rhythms of Balinese calm amid Singapore’s greenery.

Hidden within the sprawling greenery of Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park lies one of Singapore’s most tranquil wellness sanctuaries — Aramsa Spa, a destination where nature, design, and holistic care intertwine. I had long heard about its award-winning garden spa concept, but it wasn’t until recently that I finally experienced it myself — and with the best company possible: my mom.

This weekday treat was more than just a spa visit; it was an intimate pause in our busy lives, wrapped in the gentle hum of nature and the scent of the earth after rain.

Tip: Thinking of a little weekday escape? You’ll find some exclusive Aramsa Spa indulgences waiting at the end of this post.
A sanctuary hidden in plain sight — where time slows, and the city fades away.

A Name That Speaks of Love and Repose

Even before stepping into the spa, its name hinted at the experience that awaited — a delicate balance of serenity and care.

Aramsa comes from the Sanskrit word for “blissful repose and relaxation.” Interestingly, it’s also “Asmara” — which means “love” in Bahasa Indonesia — spelt backwards. The name reflects exactly what the spa promises: a harmonious blend of love and blissful rest, and I can say firsthand that every detail, from the garden landscape to the therapy rituals, truly embodies this ethos.

A Garden Sanctuary in the City

Stepping into Aramsa Spa felt like crossing an invisible border between the city’s hum and a hidden garden retreat. Located right inside Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park, the spa is framed by lush foliage and meandering garden paths that immediately lift the mood.

A tranquil prelude — sunlight, greenery, and whispers of calm in every corner.
Scents of essential oil blends linger in the air, quietly awakening the senses.

The lobby itself sets the tone — bright, airy, and effortlessly Balinese, with rattan furnishings, earthy tones, and invigorating scents that awaken the senses. Natural light spills through full-length windows, reflecting off potted palms and wooden textures. It’s the kind of space that instantly slows your breathing, gently whispering, “Let the world wait.”

A walkway that feels like an exhale — each step deeper into serenity.

The Retreat Experience

We were led through the serene pathways to our treatment suite — Couple Room 4, one of the 12 private garden rooms (6 couple rooms and 6 single rooms) across the property. Each room features floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking a different part of its private garden, thoughtfully framed to invite stillness. The spa’s most recent renovation was completed in September 2024, giving the entire space a refreshed sense of tranquillity and modernity.

A cocoon of light and stillness — where nature and privacy coexist beautifully.
Moments of quiet reflection, surrounded by the soft rustle of leaves.

Ours was particularly beautiful, bathed in natural light with a secluded green enclave outside the glass panel — an atmosphere that reminded me of a Kyoto retreat, where every corner encourages quiet reflection and the art of simply being.

It’s as though time stretches differently here.”

The quietness, the sound of leaves rustling, even the filtered daylight — all of it invites you to slow down and be present. It reminded me of one of my favourite reads, The Things You Can See Only When You Slow Down by Haemin Sunim — and truly, that’s the very essence of Aramsa.

Our Mother-Daughter Spa Ritual

We indulged in Aramsa Bloom (couple price $698), the spa’s signature garden ritual that combines Floral Exfoliation, Inner Respite Massage, and an Elemis Superfood Facial.

The therapists first exfoliated our skin with a sea salt, green tea essential oil and dried rose petal scrub, leaving the body soft and nourished. My mom and I each chose our preferred essential oil blend — I went for Aramsa (lavender, geranium, palmarosa & lime) while she picked Flourish (neroli, chamomile & rose). The oils were soothing yet distinct, and as the massage began, the aromas enveloped us in waves of calm.

The touch of expert hands, the scent of botanicals — a quiet surrender to nature.

The Elemis Superfood Facial that followed was the perfect finishing touch. Our skin felt plump, hydrated, and visibly brighter — a complete glow-up. What made the experience extra special was that although we were in the same room, Aramsa’s therapists seamlessly adjusted to our slightly different add-ons — my mom opted for the Bojin Facial (add-on: $98) while I tried the LED Light Therapy ($118) — so we could still enjoy the session together.

LED Light Therapy: A Gentle Boost for the Skin

I had the chance to try the Dermalux FLEX MD Therapy, a non-invasive, FDA-approved LED therapy that is a favourite among skincare enthusiasts and professionals alike.

Using clinically proven wavelengths, this advanced device targets a range of skin concerns — from ageing and fine lines to acne, redness, and hyperpigmentation — by working on the deeper layers of the skin to repair, plump, and rejuvenate, leaving the complexion visibly brighter and healthier.

Here’s how each light setting works:

  • Blue light: Targets blemish-causing bacteria, ideal for treating mild to moderate breakouts.
  • Blue + Red light: Combines antibacterial benefits with healing, helping fade post-acne marks.
  • Red light: Stimulates collagen, smooths fine lines, and revitalises tired skin.
  • Near-Infrared light (NIR): Calms inflammation, strengthens the skin barrier, and enhances overall skin health.
Near-Infrared light Therapy

Each light has its own therapeutic benefits, and the treatment can be customised based on skin type and condition. The red light felt slightly more intense for me — ideal for those targeting fine lines and wrinkles — while the blue light offered a gentler sensation. Throughout the session, the therapist applied light pressure and gentle massage, transforming what could have been a clinical procedure into a deeply relaxing ritual.

Post-treatment, my skin felt refreshed, more even-toned, and radiant — a subtle yet noticeable glow that complemented the floral massage and Elemis facial perfectly. It’s a modern, innovative addition to the traditional spa ritual that leaves you feeling simultaneously pampered and rejuvenated.

A Floral Bath Worth Lingering For

No Aramsa experience is complete without their iconic Garden Flower Bath (top-up $98 per couple). Set outdoors in a private enclave naturally veiled by lush foliage, the bath is a sanctuary of its own — warm water scattered with rose petals, framed by greenery and open skies.

An outdoor soak cocooned in lush greens, with nature itself as your canopy.”

Surrounded by soft daylight and the soft dance of greenery, the world beyond the garden seemed to fade. There was something tender about sharing this quiet ritual with my mom — a reminder that simple moments, when unhurried, can feel deeply luxurious.

The smile says it all — warmth, serenity, and the joy of being cared for.

The private garden felt almost otherworldly — a scene worthy of its own spa postcard. My mom couldn’t stop smiling, half-joking, “If only they served ginger tea here… I’d never leave.”

(For those sensitive to insects, do note that this is an outdoor experience, though the team takes precautionary steps before you enter — a small trade-off for such an idyllic soak.)

Post-Treatment Rituals

After a warm, aroma-infused bath, we were invited to a sun-drenched, air-conditioned lounge overlooking the garden — a thoughtful conclusion to the journey. Their ginger tea deserves special mention: comforting, aromatic, and perfectly balanced. There’s an abundant selection of artisan teas for floral tea lovers, offering a simple, cosy way to linger and savour the moment.

A gentle close — fragrant tea, filtered light, and the soft echo of contentment.

As we sipped, the serene garden stretched before us — foliage swaying gently, delicate blooms catching the light, and shadows dancing across the paths — a quiet, zen-like pause that extended the spa’s calm in perfect harmony.

A Quiet Pause with Mom

For me, this wasn’t just another spa day. My mom, who has dedicated her life to work and rarely indulged in such experiences, seemed mesmerised by the tranquil beauty encapsulating us — I could see in her eyes that this was something truly special.

As we grow older, the moments we share with our parents become ever more precious — fleeting, even. I find myself wanting to hold on to them a little longer, savouring every smile and boisterous laugh we share. These quiet pockets of peace, laughter, and mother–daughter connection feel like pure bliss.

I am deeply thankful that this weekday escape was something I could experience with her. It is a chance to slow down, breathe, and be together — and I know I can only do this because my work allows me the freedom to choose how I spend my time.

Writer’s Note:

Drawing from Malay, Indonesian, and Chinese healing traditions, each treatment here is designed to restore balance in both body and mind. What I love is how flexible their approach is — there’s no fixed package or rigid routine. Depending on how your body feels, you can choose a different therapy each visit — whether you need something deeply soothing or a massage that gently reawakens tired muscles.

Whether you’re planning a mother-daughter retreat, a couple’s spa day, or simply craving an afternoon of quiet indulgence just for yourself, this is one of the most restorative escapes you can find without leaving Singapore.
