Taipei is a city with no lack of great coffee. And any Taipei city dweller would agree that Zhongshan District is the place to go if you’re keen on a cafe-hopping adventure in Taipei. Nestled in a small alley in Zhongshan district, 夏野豆行 — Summer Savage Coffee is a little coffee kiosk that lives up to the name of a true hidden gem.
This small little kiosk with lots of wood elements and limited seating reminds us of the cosy, independent cafes on the streets of Tokyo. The cafe offers a wide selection of espresso beverages ranging from the usual latte, americano, single origins to fancy milk-based espresso beverages like “Mama’s Special”, Brown Sugar Latte and Honey Cinnamon Latte.
The store rotates its single-origin beans on a regular basis. Some are not listed on the menu so if you’re keen, you may find out more from the friendly baristas. You may, of course, request the barista to whip up your coffee based on your taste preference.
We were delighted by their hot latte. The milk froth was very fine and pillowy, with a nice sweetness that compliments well with the intense and beautifully complex aroma from the espresso. It tasted like caramel chocolate with some citrusy notes and hints of honey walnut. It was truly a bliss to kick start our cafe hopping trail with 夏野豆行.
While most patrons would do takeouts at this cafe, on a less busy day, you can enjoy your cup of joe at their outdoor seat while watching the world pass by.
